Louise de Winter
Holland, 1949.

Studied at the Art Academy of St. Joost in Breda (diploma 1970).
Her technique is based on mixed media: an interaction of aquarel-, gouache- and oil paint, sometimes gold leaf is added. A play of colours and materials, that enables her to transform her fantasy. The women grow during the painting. Sizes are being defined, the composition originates, the colour palette is composed. It all leads to a tangible result of what’s in her head. ‘My work is suggestive, figurative. I paint women my way. Women with special faces, remarkable clothes, dressed festively. The paintings have various effects on people, but what they have in common is that they cheer up most spectators. They make you smile.’
